Challenging students to achieve the almost impossible

Designed to be difficult, Digital Genius challenges will test your commitment and resilience. They will push you to innovate and find a solution that is uniquely yours.

As a partner school you get teaching and learning support for all challenges with regular scheduled teachmeets, which help teachers get to grips with the scope of each challenge and enables them to better support students.

Student badge programme

Digital Genius is a student leadership initiative that puts students in the driving seat of realising their creative potential with technology. Designed to be inclusive and to suit a range of interests and abilities, students are encouraged to arrive at an interpretation of each challenge that is uniquely theirs to be proud of.

Leadership

Leadership sits at the very core of Digital Genius. We challenge Digital Genius veterans to reflect on their experience and to help others along their own path. In doing so they will learn invaluable communication skills and the ability to discuss abstract concepts, while further developing their technical proficiency to achieve desired aims.

Media

Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts considering their own and others' needs, wants and values.

Art & Design

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. Art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupil’s, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.

{CODE} Red

High quality computing tasks equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, design and technology and provides insights into natural and artificial systems.

The Challenges

With four new challenges set every year, the possibilities are endless. Students currently undertaking these challenges will present their work at the Annual Education Summit in June.

Olympic Art

Unleash your inner artist. British athletes inspire us all and we want to celebrate their success in a series of unique art works by unknown artists. Draw or paint British Olympic and paralympic athletes and capture the spirit of the Olympic movement with digital art tools on iPad. A challenge based on apps that turn every iPad into a canvas or sketchpad.

Inspired by Nature

Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions by observing designs that work well in nature and applying them to solve ‘real-world’ problems. Find out how a kingfisher’s beak, a sticky burr and shark skin have inspired some of the best designs in the world and take on the challenge of designing your own invention as nature does.

Innovative Storytelling

Storytelling is innately human and with each generation we find new ways to compose and share stories, keeping them alive. Your challenge is to tell your own story on stage, in front of a packed auditorium. You’ll want to think about innovative ways to tell your story; because we’re expecting the unexpected.

Robot Dancing

Meet Meebot, complete with six servo motors. Meebot can move its arms, legs and feet. Start by building Meebot from click together plastic blocks, then explore a range of pre-set movements for inspiration. Code these actions and choreograph them to form a unique dance routine. Will your Meebot win the Annual Education Summit 2018 Dance-off?
